Iraq to Announce Preliminary Election Results Following Secure Voting Process

Lieutenant General Qais Al-Mohammedawi, head of the High Security Committee for Elections in Iraq, announced that preliminary results from the parliamentary elections will be disclosed this evening, confirming that the electoral process was conducted smoothly and transparently, with no significant security issues.
Al-Mohammedawi noted that all ballot boxes were sealed yesterday evening, Tuesday, at 6 PM local time. He commended the "heroic and professional" efforts of security forces in safeguarding the electoral process, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency.
The transportation of ballot boxes and data began at 8 PM, following the completion of manual counting and sorting. Results were subsequently delivered to representatives of the political parties.
* Security Plan Deemed Successful
Al-Mohammedawi highlighted that the army aviation assisted in transporting electoral materials from remote regions, including the deserts of Samawah, Anbar, and Najaf, while the air force facilitated transport from provinces with airports to Baghdad. Ground transportation was utilized for nearby provinces.
He confirmed that the first phase of the security plan was successfully executed, with all technical devices functioning without issues.
Although over 132 electoral violations were reported, Al-Mohammedawi stated these did not impact the election results, asserting that the electoral process was one of the most organized and secure in the nation’s history.
* Voter Turnout Surpasses Expectations
The Independent High Electoral Commission announced that voter turnout exceeded 55%, with approximately 12 million of the 21.4 million eligible voters participating during the general and special voting days. This marks a significant increase from the 41% turnout recorded in the 2021 elections, despite a boycott by Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of the Sadrist movement.
