International Union for Conservation of Nature: 100 species of wild bees in Europe are threatened with extinction

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) warned that about 100 species of wild bees in Europe are facing the risk of extinction due to the increasing environmental threats affecting wild pollinators.

The warning came during the IUCN World Congress held in Abu Dhabi, where participants emphasized that the survival of European wild pollinators is at increasing risk, threatening the sustainability of ecosystems and food systems.

European Commissioner for Environment Jessica Roswall stated that the situation for pollinators is "critical," stressing that wild bees are a key element in food sustainability and ecological balance, noting that the decline in these species could lead to widespread disruptions in crop production and biodiversity.

Wild bees face multiple threats, the most prominent of which are:
• Loss of natural habitats due to urban and agricultural expansion.
• Intensive use of pesticides.
• Climate change affecting flowering and breeding seasons.

This warning is an urgent call to decision-makers in Europe and the world to take effective steps to protect pollinators by supporting sustainable agriculture, providing safe environments for bees, and reducing the use of harmful chemicals.
