Zootopia 2 Sets Record as Highest-Grossing Foreign Film in China

The animated film "Zootopia 2", produced by Walt Disney, has achieved a significant milestone at the Chinese box office, becoming the foreign film with the highest earnings in the history of Chinese cinema. It has outperformed the previous record set by "Avengers: Endgame".
As of Tuesday morning, data from the Maoyan platform indicates that Zootopia 2 has generated approximately 4.251 billion yuan (around 606 million dollars), accounting for about 36% of its total global earnings. This figure surpasses its revenue in North America, as reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
This record comes amid projections from the National Film Administration of China, which anticipates that box office revenues in 2025 will exceed 50 billion yuan (approximately 7.08 billion dollars). The report, released in December, noted that local films dominated the market, contributing 40.952 billion yuan, or about 81.9% of total revenues, with 1.194 billion admissions to cinemas.
The success of Zootopia 2 underscores the strong appeal of animated films among Chinese audiences and highlights the robust presence of American animation in global markets, particularly in Asia's largest film market.
