The public prosecutor's office in Paris announced the arrest of four people following disturbances that occurred on Thursday evening inside the Paris Philharmonic, during a concert performed by the Israeli orchestra, one of the most prominent classical music ensembles in the world.
Sources reported that among the detainees was an individual listed on the "S" security list, which includes individuals considered by French authorities to be a potential threat to national security, adding a sensitive aspect to the incident.
The disturbances began when one of the attendees lit a flare inside the hall, leading to chaos, which included scuffles among the attendees, before security forces intervened and partially evacuated the venue. Despite this, the concert continued later in a calm manner according to reports from French media.
The event sparked widespread controversy, especially as it came amid calls from pro-Palestinian activists to cancel the concert, protesting the participation of a group representing a country accused of committing violations in Gaza. French cultural unions also demanded that artistic institutions remind their audiences of the "serious violations attributed to the leaders of the occupation."
French authorities tightened security measures around the Philharmonic, emphasizing that artistic freedom does not mean tolerance for riots or security threats, noting that investigations are ongoing to determine the motives of the detainees and whether there are political backgrounds behind the incident.
