Colombian President Expresses Alarm Over Trump's Military Threat

In an interview with El País, Petro stated:
"There were signs that preparations for a military operation might be underway. I feared I could face a fate similar to that of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro."
Petro noted that the perceived military threat lessened following a one-hour conversation with Trump on Wednesday, asserting:
"I believe the threat has been postponed, and perhaps I was mistaken."
In a related development, Trump announced on Friday that he plans to meet with Petro at the White House in February 2026, underscoring the importance of cooperation between the two nations in the fight against drug trafficking. On his platform "Truth Social," he wrote:
"I look forward to meeting Gustavo Petro; it will be very fruitful for Colombia and the United States, but we must prevent cocaine and other drugs from entering the United States."
This announcement comes amid a backdrop of complex U.S. political actions in the region, reminiscent of past incidents like the military operation in Iran, raising questions about Trump's true intentions regarding Colombia.
