The Egyptian Ministry of Interior detained two content creators, known as "Excelence" and "Sultangi," on Saturday evening following the release of videos that ignited significant controversy regarding the safety of food products available in local markets.
In a statement posted on its official "Facebook" page on Sunday, the Ministry indicated that the investigation uncovered an effort by the content creators to undermine consumer confidence in food products for personal financial gain through increased social media views.
Investigators found that the individuals had conducted analyses of certain food items in official laboratories to verify their compliance with established standards before filming the clips in a private residence and uploading them online to attract viewers and generate revenue.
The videos made allegations that bottled water was "counterfeit" and questioned the quality of olive oil, white honey, and brown bread, labeling these products as potentially fraudulent.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that appropriate legal measures were taken against the creators, while the videos continued to circulate on social media, prompting widespread public concern about food safety in the region.
