Benin's Gernot Rohr Prepares for Challenging Match Against Egypt in Africa Cup of Nations 2025

Gernot Rohr, the German coach of the Benin national football team, emphasized that defeating Egypt in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, currently taking place in Morocco, would mark a notable achievement for his players.
In a press conference prior to the match against Egypt, Rohr stated:
"Facing Egypt will be a formidable challenge, as they are a highly respected team with considerable experience. To be candid, we are not the favorites in this matchup."
He further commented:
"I have heard discussions regarding potential financial incentives for the players if we manage to overcome Egypt, but we have not received any official confirmation about that. Nevertheless, a victory against such a strong opponent truly warrants recognition."
Rohr also highlighted that Egypt had the advantage of more rest leading up to the match, having rested their key players during their game against Angola, while Benin faced a physically demanding match against Senegal, complicating their preparations.
These remarks come as Benin has successfully advanced to the Round of 16, while Egypt aims to continue its pursuit of success in this prestigious tournament.
