2025 Declared Hottest Year on Record in the UK

This year also saw the highest number of sunshine hours since 1910, totaling 1,648 hours, marking a significant milestone in the country’s climate history.
All four seasons experienced above-average temperatures, with spring and summer recording their highest levels ever, while winter and autumn also exceeded historical norms.
The Climate Change Advisory Committee has cautioned that the UK may encounter more severe climate events by mid-century, predicting an additional temperature rise of two degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels, along with increased risks of drought, flooding, and sea-level rise of up to 25 centimeters, which could threaten coastal cities.
Consequently, 2025 presents the UK with significant climate challenges, necessitating urgent strategies to adapt to global warming and safeguard communities from its effects.
